Neighbors and Calmness

August 28, 2008 at 3:25 pm 3 comments

This morning I was scheduled to do a live interview on TV22, WWLP, our local NBC affiliate.  Last night and this morning I prepped for the interview, went through all the talking points and reviewed everything again this morning.  I was pretty prepared as I stepped out the front door at 5:15 a.m. to get to the station for 5:45. What  I wasn’t prepared for was a dead battery in my car!!!!!!!!!  Ugh, I couldn’t believe that was happening.  But…I do have another car, a car I am trying to sell.  I quickly ran back in the house, grabbed the keys to the ’94 Volvo and jumped in that car.  Ugh, that battery was dead!  What are the odds?

I had to make a choice, call the station and cancel…oh, I couldn’t do that.  Or wake up my neighbor, who unfortunately works nights, and ask to borrow his car.  I did call him, woke him up and borrowed his car.  As he half asleep walked out of his house, he handed me his keys and wished me well, thanks Gerry.

Needless to say, I was somewhat frazzled when I got to the station, but as they got me in position in the correct chair, got the mike hooked up, and pointed the cameras,  I quickly put two cars and two dead batteries in the back of my mind, and went on air, twice, for the interviews.  I did find a true calmness, and made my points, walked out of the station, drove home, returned Gerry’s car and called AAA.  All is well.

Glad you had a friendly neighbor who could help! I think you owe him a box of cookies or something. 🙂
