What do food and money have in common?  Yes, necessities to live most would say.  Others might contribute that people find enjoyment in both.  Today I would say, sitting here in Phoenix, Arizona that no matter where you drive or walk, you can find both so easily.

I was in the Elephant Bar, a wonderful Pacific menu, yesterday and in speaking to the manager about the number of restaurants in the area, and especially chain restaurants, he explained in a three mile radius around his, there are 100 restaurants.  Many choices for those living or visiting Phoenix.  Earlier in the day, I was sitting with Pat Bodnar, SVP, of the Arizona Credit Union League and she explained the number of financial institutions in their market.  See the logic?

The Elephant Bar Manager explained  there are a number of Elephant Bars on the West Coast, and in Arizona he has to use local products so he can compete with the local restaurants.  He keeps his product on brand for his restaurant but meet the needs and demands of his own customers.

I would say credit unions can do the same, be loyal to the credit union mission, but bring their own unique products to those they serve in their local markets.  They must define their own market by searching locally but stay true to who they are, not dilute themselves trying to be everything to everyone.

Credit must also go to the Elephant Bar manager for knowing the competition in his area, congrats!

More on the Arizona Credit Union League very soon.
