Are credit unions making their mark as a vibrant part of our communities? Are we now being seen as ‘an industry’ from the outside, instead of just from within our own small closed industry? Are we now worthy of calls from vendors other than those who just vend within our closed industry?

Credit unions are now making their ‘mark’ as a sought out industry from which to garner business. I have this image of some going through a credit union yellow page listing, and sending letters or calling from A to Z Credit Union to be their preferred vendor for product or service. I also have an example of this.

I am not saying this is good or bad. What I am asking is that is this new? And since we are pro actively being exposed to more choices, is this a welcoming effort?

What does this have to do with public relations for credit unions?  Dealing with local providers can also bring us their community connections and can give us the good will of keeping dollars close to home.  It helps us be part of that something that might be new to many of us – local community.  It can introduce us to influencers, those that influence others into taking action.  It does have so much to do with public relations!
