Theory vs. Fact and Scale

How does theory make it in an industry largely based on factual information?

Financial information is formed by putting together facts, mostly numbers. You form the numbers, analyze them, make decisions based on them. Exactness, this equals that, that means this, and on and on.

Publc relations, marketing and communication efforts are based largely on theory. You draw conclusions based on experience, experiences and supposition. You constantly study and listen because there is little exactness but there is always change. You also take chances!!!

But theory can be drawn to scale. Our theories can be applied in smaller applications or ones quite large with minor adjustment.

For example, I am involved in different community and charity work on behalf of the credit union as well as personal interests:

Two weekends ago, I was involved in a fundraising event for a local private school. Ticket price: $65; attendance: 240 people; funds raised: $50,000.

This past weekend, I was involved in an event to raise funds for a local boys organization. Ticket price: $25; attendance: 45 people; funds raised: $4,000.img_1551.jpg

Both events were high quality events; were organized the same way; were operated similarly; were marketedthe same way with public relations efforts, but all planning, operation, and promotion were scaled to meet the appropriate size of the event.  Both met their goals, both were successful!  Scale of theory!
